Peace Brigades international

De nieuwe gevers introduced me to the Peace Brigades international and I had the chance to tell Andrew Michael's story into an animation. Peace Brigades International (PBI) is a non-governmental human rights organization recognized by the United Nations. For 40 years, PBI has been sending volunteers from all over the world to conflict areas to protect endangered human rights defenders. PBI works on non-violent conflict resolution by recruiting, training and deploying volunteers as protectors of human rights defenders.

Earlier this year, Peace Brigades International had the opportunity to welcome Andrew Michael, an activist from South Sudan, to Utrecht. In this interview, Andrew will present why human rights are at stake in his country and how he fights for it.

Sketching and developing

In order to tell Andrew's story, I write out the text completely using the first images that come to mind. I then develop all the visuals and convert them into animations.

"It was amazing to learn cyber security skills, counter surveillance, and how to use a secured communication line to navigate interception engines used to spy on the correspondence of Human Rights defenders".
